Meet Michael, he is 25 and lives in North Yorkshire. He lives independently, and is supported by the Autism Plus supported living team. Michael has autism and needs support in day to day living.
He asked for help from Autism Plus to develop his independent living skills in things like getting dressed, housework, managing finances and cooking, which we do in his own home.
Michael is on a work placement at Easi Works, after completing a course in agriculture at college he wanted to experience workingoutdoors in real working environment. The placement at Easi Works is as a stock collector, distributing bags and collectingdonations for the Autism Plus charity shops. The work placement has given Michael thechance to develop his social skills by working with, and meeting new people. It has enabled him to experience work in real working environment, but at the same time receive the daily support he needs. Michael said, “what I love about this role is that I get to work outside, it’s great apart from when it rains.”
Although he may not want to move into paid employment right now, Michael is continuing to live independently and gain work skills and confidence.
