A-Plus Drumlines at the Special Olympics
Our A-Plus Drumlines group whose members all have a disability, has been selected to perform at the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Great Britain National Summer Games in Sheffield this summer.
A-Plus Drumline, Europe’s first marching percussion ensemble for people with learning disabilities was created in Sheffield three years ago. The group performs on a range of marching drums and has perfected a choreographed display as part of their performance.
Ran in partnership with Concord Youth Music, the group practice every week at Autism Plus headquarters, Exchange Brewery, Sheffield and is open to everyone aged 16 and over with special needs or disabilities.
The ceremony takes place at Sheffield United FC, Bramall Lane on Tuesday 8th August 2017.
Roger C Steel MBE, Founder and Director said “Performing at the Special Olympics Great Britain opening ceremony in our home city is a real honour for A-Plus Drumline and a great tribute to all the hard work we have all done to get this far. I’m very proud of all our members. Obviously, we have loads more work to do to be able to present a really good, entertaining performance and we would welcome new members as soon as possible so they can learn the routine.
